Islamabad: (Ahmed Zameer) The journalist community strongly protested the arrest of journalists Shabbir Saham and Bashir Malik at the Shehzad Town police station. Immediately after the incident, Rawalpindi Islamabad Union of Journalists (RIUJ) President Tariq Ali Virk and National Press Club Islamabad Acting Secretary Shiraz Gardezi reached the police station and resolved the matter amicably with timely strategy.
A large number of journalists protested outside the police station for the release of the arrested journalists. As a result of the timely efforts of the leadership, Shabbir Saham and Bashir Malik were released.
After the release, Rawalpindi Islamabad Union of Journalists President Tariq Ali Virk, National Press Club Acting Secretary Shiraz Gardezi, and senior journalist Shabbir Saham thanked the journalists present outside the police station.
President of the Rawalpindi Islamabad Union of Journalists Tariq Ali Virk said that the Rawalpindi Islamabad Union of Journalists stands with all its members at all times and strongly condemns such vile tactics. He said that no attempt to suppress or harass any journalist will be allowed to succeed.
Acting Secretary of the National Press Club Islamabad Shiraz Gardezi said that the National Press Club is a fortress of freedom of the press and an effective voice will be raised at all levels to protect the rights of journalists. He said that the leadership of the National Press Club stands with its journalist brothers in every difficult time. Speaking to journalists on this occasion, he further said that the FIR against Shabir Saham will be dismissed. He said, Thank you to all the colleagues who reached outside the police station and recorded their protest. He thanked Mr. Anwar Raza Sahib, former president of the National Press Club Islamabad, Mr. Tariq Virk, president of the Rawalpindi Islamabad Union of Journalists, Mr. Zaman Mughal, Mr. Javed Bhagat, Mr. Izhar Khan Niazi and Mr. Qamar Al Munawar, including everyone.
The journalist community appreciated the timely efforts of Tariq Ali Virk and Shiraz Gardezi and expressed full confidence in their leadership.
